Question:
I'm using Microsoft Outlook 2003 or earlier and I keep getting e-mails returned to me with this message:
<someone@somedomain.com>:
The user does not accept email in non-Western (non-Latin) character sets.
What can I do to fix this?
Answer:
This is likely because the intended recipient of your email has set up a spam filter that blocks anything that doesn't appear to originate from an English speaking country. Unfortunately, this method also catches mail sent from your version of Outlook.
To get around these spam filters in Outlook:
- Go to Tools > Options > Mail Format tab > International Options...
- Check the boxes by 'Use English for message flags' and 'Use English for message headers on replies and forwards'.
- Make sure 'Western European (ISO)' is selected below.
- Click OK, and OK once again.
You should now be able to send to these individuals.
